I just published a blog on some interesting summer camps available around the country along with some links for additional information. I was wondering if anyone has tried any of those camps or has any additional suggestions from past experience.
When I was young I went mostly to soccer camps, which helped me improve for the upcoming seasons, but weren't really the most fun. It wasn't that I didn't like the sport, it was that I focused on it all year and would have liked to take the summer off. I later became a coach for Skyhawks sports camp and noticed kids having the same experience I had. Some were really into it, but others would fake a different injury each day or beg me to let them go do something else. I didn't help that most of them were taller and bigger than me, so they would take their anger out on the field and I actually got a couple broken toes from them.
I would be interested in finding out if there are sports camps that children enjoy and that balance out sports with other activities. It was always terrible to see kids getting out their parents' car in tears because they didn't want to be at camp.

The camp options look great, lots of things they didn't have when I was little. My children are too young for a lot of the ones listed on the blog....but my 5 yo is going to soccer camp in August - went last year for the first time and had a lot of fun! Part of the reason may be that this particular one is only 2 hrs a day, 4 days a week. It's through Scott's Soccer Tots and is for ages 4-12 I believe. Scott Hall is an absolute genius with the kids, he makes it fun and all the coaches he works with share his same philosophy. As far all day camps, I don't have any experience as a parent (kids are too young), but I grew up going to Camp Sealth on Vashon Island and LOVED it. I also went to horseback riding camp and loved that (Camp River Ranch I think).

A friend asked me to recommend a good summer camp in or around Seattle for her 7 year old son and I was stumped. Any suggestions?
