Fight Club at La Vernia High

April 10, 2008 – 4:53 pm by Glen

Forget the Chess Club or Math Club. Students at La Vernia High School in Texas have been caught filming an amateur version of Fight Club. Only this isn’t acting. The students are actually pummeling one another in a school bathroom. And recording them on cell phones. And then uploading them onto YouTube. Cause that’s what everyone is doing these days!

FYI, a similar thing occurred about a year ago in Ponca City in Oklahoma. And again this March with Fairview High School students in Colorado.

The police, together with the school, have been reviewing the footage and identifying those involved. Depending on their involvement, local authorities say that some students may face juvenile detention.

Some stats about La Vernia High; 768 students, 78% white, 20% Hispanic. And the high school has much better test scores than the State average on ALL subjects; English Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies. My point; this has nothing to do with poor grades or highly ethnic student demographics. We’re talking about smart white kids.

What would Brad Pitt or Ed Norton say? Speak up now fellows!

  2. Let’s hope it doesn’t escalate to them using weapons on each other.
