Mom Pleads Guilty To Buying Son Assault Rifle
September 24, 2008 – 10:45 am by KimHere is a story of a mother’s love gone wrong. Michele Cossey from Plymouth Township plead guilty yesterday to charges of buying her son an assault rifle to carry out a Columbine-like attack at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School.
The son, Dillon Cossey, told authorities that he had been bullied at school and resorted to homeschooling to avoid the torment. Along with homeschooling, his mother also purchased a 9-mm assault rifle, which was found in Dillon’s bedroom upon his arrest.
Perhaps Michele’s money would have been better spent on mother-son visits to the local psychiatrist.
Michele Cossey will face the conviction of endangering the welfare of children, while her son will serve seven years in juvenile treatment. Meanwhile, father Frank Cossey is on house arrest for failing to disclose on a 1981 manslaughter conviction. What a lovely family.
One part of the story that really stood out to me – apart from the mother buying her son an assault rifle and the father being on house arrest for a possible manslaughter conviction – was what the judge said at Dillon’s sentencing.
Judge Paul Tressler told Michele Cossey that her relationship with her son was unhealthy and told Dillon that while his mother loves him, she is not a good mother. Ouch.
