Waycross Georgia Schools also had Bomb threats

April 4, 2008 – 9:24 am by S T

On April First, the world was shocked to hear the news about third graders in a Waycross Georgia Elementary school who plotted to harm their teacher. Later this week, another report stunned us with the news that fifth graders in Dawson Georgia have been charged with aggravated assault for trying to lace their teachers tea with Tylenol. And then, we thought the stories of school violence had been put to bed. At least for this week.

But no!

Guess what? In the same town of Waycross Georgia, three schools had to be evacuated on March 18th on account of bomb threats! You read that correctly. Here’s the details: At 7:18 AM on March 18, the Ware County Emergency Operations Center received a phone call. A male caller, who sounded like a teenager, announced an intention of “blowing up Ware County High School, Waycross Middle School and Ware County Middle School.

The schools were evacuated and the bomb squad was called in. No explosive devices were found. However, a note was found at the high school bearing the words “this is a bomb” with a hand-drawn arrow pointing down to a humidifier that ticks loudly. It was found to be harmless with no evidence linking the note with the telephone threat.

Police Chief Tony Tanner said that in the past, there have been one or two bomb threats a year at the schools!

The Waycross Police Department is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest/prosecution of the people/people responsible for the bomb threats.

FYI, the bomb threats did NOT occur at the same school where the third grader incident took place.

A few things I don’t get:

1) The mainstream media was all over the story of the third graders wanting to harm their teacher. But the media did not make the simple connection with the bomb threats that had occurred only a week and a half earlier in the same small city/school district! Here’s the story from Foxnews & Time; no mention of previous bomb threats.

2) Why didn’t the police department make the connection; if there are bombs threats happening in your schools, why not install metal detectors in the schools, thereby preventing students from bringing steak knives to class?

3) Why does it seem as if there’s a sudden surge a violence in schools, specifically with those located in Georgia?
