Harrold Independent School District, in Texas, will allow teachers and staff to carry guns in school. Trustees approved the measure to deter against school shootings. School officials indicated the small communities distance from sheriff’s office (30 minute drive).
Superintendent David Thweatt said, “When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that’s when all of these shootings started.” He did not clarify how many teachers will be carrying guns this fall for security reasons.
The Texas school district will impose regulation and rules for teachers, who wish to carry concealed a pistol.
- Texas license to carry a concealed handgun
- District authorization
- Minimal ricochet ammunition
- Crisis management training
