Third Graders Charged with Conspiracy & Weapon Possession
April 1, 2008 – 5:35 pm by S TUnfortunately, this is NOT an April Fools Day news story. This past Friday, following a tip from a fellow student, a steak knife was found in the backpack of a third grader. It was discovered that she and possibly eight other students were plotting to harm their teacher. This incident occurred at the Center Elementary School in Waycross Georgia.
One child’s job was to cover windows so no one could see outside. Another was supposed to clean up after the attack.
(items confiscated from the students)
According to this report, the motive may have been to exact revenge on Belle Carter, their teacher, after she disciplined a girl in her classroom for “standing on a chair.”
The Ware County Sheriff’s Office says that three of the third-grade students have been charged with conspiracy. Two of these students are additionally charged with possession of a weapon.
As if the story is not shocking enough, I noticed that the test scores at this school are pretty high. Scary.
