Teacher Resigns Over Bikini Photo

Good friday. Another week,  another story about a teacher in a bikini who is no longer teaching thanks to the two-piece swimsuit. If you recall, last week we wrote about Tiffany Shepherd, another teacher who claims she was fired for moonlighting in the sun as a bikini mate.

The bikini wearing teacher is Marie Jarry of Southington Conneticut. She was a second grade teacher at Thalberg School in the Southington School District. You can get an in-depth profile of the school here.

Here’s what went down; on May 1st, Marie Jarry and her husband Aaron appeared as a couple on the Howard Stern Show, where they competed in the “Ugliest Man, Hottest Wife” contest. The couple won $5000. More here.

Now, despite the title of this article, Marie Jarry was NOT fired. Rather, she resigned on her own accord after she felt pressure from the Thalberg School community.

A few points:

1. Again, despite attempts at a “sensational headline,” Marie Jarry was not fired for wearing a bikini, she resigned.
2. So far, both bikini wearing teachers in the news were female. When will we see a male teacher in a bikini story???
3. (warning: I’m about to voice an opinion) imagine that Marie Jarry WAS fired from her school for appearing on the Howard Stern Show. And suppose Tiffany Sheppherd was indeed fired for her employment as a bikini mate.

Why the surprise? When you are a school teacher, you assume the responsiblity of being an educator and whether you like it or not, a role model. And most parents would NOT want their child’s teacher to be involved with the Howard Stern Show, or working for a fishing charter company that was banned from the city marina because they were not a “family friendly” business.

If the city won’t tolerate it, neither should the school.
